My Yoga Journey

I attended my first yoga class in the mid 1980’s whilst in my early teens. Initially the physical practise drew me in, and I loved finding my physical limits of strength and flexibility.

In my early 20’s I had the opportunity to practise in India, and for 6 weeks practised intensively with a student of the late BKS Iyengar. Here I learned to respect the physical body, find the body’s natural alignment and limits.

During my mid to late 20’s I realised that I had gained so much more than just physical benefits from my regular practise. I appreciated that I felt better able to lead my life, that my mental capacities were improved and more balanced, and that my life was just easier with a regular yoga practise in it.

Through my early to mid 30’s I used yoga through my pregnancies. During this phase I fell in love with the soothing, nourishing and relaxing effects of the breath, plus the ability of the physical moves to make space available inside my body.

From my late 30’s to mid 40’s yoga has helped me reclaim my sense of identity.  I completed the British Wheel of Yoga Foundation course, followed by the teaching diploma and I now teach yoga as my career.
